Whispers of the Forest
In the heart of the ancient Elderwood, where moonlight clings to every leaf and the air hums with old magic, there once stood a tree unlike any other. Its bark was the colour of snowlit clouds, and its surface bore textures as varied as wind and stone — a patchwork of the forest’s own memories. The villagers called it The Silent Watcher, believing it to be the resting place of a forgotten forest spirit.
Few dared approach it. They said the tree spoke not with words, but with feeling — a hum in the bones, a flutter in the chest, a tear without cause.
One dusk, a wood sculptor named Elenor wandered deep into the woods, guided by a dream she’d had three nights in a row: of silver leaves and a voice calling her name on the wind. There, under the watchful gaze of the moon, she found the fallen branch — smooth, white, and warm to the touch despite the frost in the air.
With reverence, she carried it home.
For days, Elenor carved in silence. Her tools moved as if guided by something unseen, coaxing forth patterns that felt like memories — ridges like ancient bark, swirls like the eddies of a forest stream, and soft, flowing curves like the breath of a sleeping giant. The wood responded not with resistance, but with trust.
